What Are Some Human Organs We Depend On The Most?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Wallace_Kirby]Wallace Kirby
As humans we depend upon a lot of things to ensure that our body is running smoothy. We need food and water and air for sure, but what about those organs that exist inside our bodies? We rely upon them to ensure that we function properly, and in this short article I would like to take a brief tour to examine three of these organs and explain a bit about what they do.
A) The Human Brain - All of our organs may be healthy and happy but without this one particular organ they would not do much else than just sit there. I'm talking about the brain of course. The brain is in fact the center of the nervous system not only for humans but for all vertebrate animals. It is directly responsible for all our thinking and thought processes and our other organs and bodily functions depend on it to perform their functions as well. The reason for this is that the brain forms the "physical structure" that encompasses the human mind. Without the "electrical signals" that our brain sends them they would not know what to do with themselves. Whether your body wants to jump around or just sit quietly in the corner, it is the brain that tells them exactly what to do.
B) The Human Heart - Let's turn our focus now to that of the heart. When we think of a heart we are more often than not thinking of romance or perhaps St. Valentine's Day. The heart performs a much more basic function in that it is responsible for pumping all that red blood that exists in our veins to the organs and areas of the body that need it the most. Where would your stomach or liver or brain be without the blood that they need to function? It is the job of the heart to ensure that they have an ample supply of blood available when they need it the most.
C) The Human Liver - Our focus will not shift to that of the liver. This tiny little organ is tucked away in the body but few of us know what it does. In fact, to many of us, the word liver brings back memories of our mother forcing us to eat it when we were younger. So, just   rel=nofollow [http://www.ihavediscovered.com/989/what-does-the-liver-do.html]what does the liver do anyway? The liver is vital to the efficient operating of the human body in that it cleans the body of its impurities. It plays other major roles including glycogen storage, plasma protein synthesis, hormone production, and the decomposition of red blood cells.
This is truly a fascinating subject with a lot of ground to cover. There are many more organs in the human body and if you would like to learn some more about this topic we would encourage you to visit our website iHaveDiscovered. We will go into much greater detail on this subject to help you gain better understanding. See you there!

Lumosity Review: Brain Training

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=John_Stamm]John Stamm
Lumosity was established as a scientific approach to brain training. Although there are several websites out there for brain training that claim to be able to improve your cognitive skills most of them are dodgy, badly designed and poorly setup. It is clear that designing a tool to help you improve your mental abilities is not as easy as creating a java app of a Rubik's cube. And this is why it is something that should be left to professionals.
More specifically neuroscientists should be behind every such attempt. Doing a quick search online will easily show you that most websites are just not professional enough to be trusted. This is not true for Lumosity. This is a quick review of the website which is indeed a complete brain training system. I will highlight the essential differences between Lumosity and other websites and why you should pick that system instead of any other out there.
Lumosity was established in 2005 by Lumos Labs Inc. in California and the purpose was to provide a way to improve your cognitive abilities at as much of a scientific way as possible.
1. Lumosity has partnered with neuroscientists to utilise their experience in the fields of learning and brain training and development.
This differentiates this website from others that are setup by the average tech and SEO "expert" trying to draw traffic. Constant updates of the content are always run by the team of experts. The researchers that they have partnered with are from Stanford University, UCSF, Harvard and Columbia Universities.
2. Lumosity's games and exercises are based on the principle of neuroplasticity.
What that means in simple words is that our neurons are able to alter/increase their synapses to other neurons and improve our cognitive abilities if we subject them to constant training. This is in direct contrast to what was previously believed about neurons. That we are born with a certain number of neurons that do not change after that.
3. Lumosity games are entertaining and fun.
Hence this is not a boring experience that you will most likely abandon a few days after you register. And this is the most common problem I have encountered with this kind of brain training websites. The variety of games can be limited in some of them but not in Lumosity. The difficulty of the games changes constantly and new games are added frequently. The users can also test new games and provide their feedback. This way they are cutting down on development costs and they also add variety to the system.
4. Lumosity allows you to track your progress and improvements in performance.
Getting adequate feedback is essential to tasks like this. Comparing your skills to those that you had at the beginning of the program a few months back will give you the sense of achievement. You can track your mental speed and memory improvement as well as several other parameters at the dashboard. The "My History" section allows for comparisons across all games.
5. What aspects of brain training should I expect from Lumosity and how much will it cost me in comparison to other systems?
You should certainly see significant improvement in spatial working memory, concentration, visual attention and creativity. Albert Einstein once said creativity is better than knowledge and he was so right! By activating novel pathways in your brain, new neural circuits are created that allow the brain to react to new stimuli regardless of previous experiences.
The cost was another great surprise for me since I had to choose between the free programs out there that had very limited to no value and some very expensive alternatives that were beyond what most of us can afford. Their program is priced reasonably at $80 a year which is less than $7 a month.
Conclusion: If you need the absolute best in terms of brain training and stimulation this is the only program I would trust. Yes, there are a lot of completely free websites but they are not professionally developed and worth spending your time on.
John Stamm is an advocate of lifelong learning, positive thinking and the immense power of the human brain.

Quality Health - A Matter Of Global Concern

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Amoako_Richard]Amoako Richard
Health defines an individual's state of physical, mental and social well-being. It is an undeniable fact that the issue of health has gained global interest, and the efforts contributed by world leaders and governments towards the achievement of quality health for all, cannot be overlooked. The fact that health is gaining such global concern attests that it is a very important facet of human existence. No wonder it is constitutionally a fundamental human right in every nation.
World leaders have come to know and understand the importance of quality health, and so strive to implement good health policies in the various countries for the good of the populace. The reasons for such policies are not far-fetched. The productivity of every nation is keen to national development and the lack of quality health will mar the socioeconomic development of the nation. With good health, workers are able to work at great outputs. Quality health serves as a source of motivation and enthusiasm, without which productivity is seriously affected. Furthermore, quality health ensures that one is happy and at peace with oneself. This can be ascertained considering the famine situation currently in Somalia, where the happiness and peace of both once vibrant young and old have faded into thin air. Quality health is, furthermore, needed to ensure continuity of creation. That is to say the world can only ensure the continuity of procreation when parents are strong and healthy, so as to bring forth likewise healthy offspring who would take over from them.
Having quality health is great, but it also comes with its own challenges. A major challenge is the failure of individuals to pay particular attention to self-care strategies. All over the world, awareness is made as to the need for us to adhere to self-care strategies. In various countries, outreach programs are usually embarked on by the public health sector to educate the populace on self-care strategies. Such programs seek to prevent and manage diseases, injuries and other health conditions through surveillance of cases and the promotion of healthy behaviors, communities and environments. The self-care strategies promoted by these programs are not far-fetched. These are basically personal hygiene practices such as bathing and washing of hands with soap; proper preparation and safe handling of food; brushing of teeth, to mention but a few. Indeed these programs are usually sponsored by various governments throughout the world, so as to ensure quality health globally.
It is a matter of conspicuous conclusion that good health is vital for good life and productivity of the world as a whole. Furthermore, world leaders are relentlessly doing their best to ensure that the whole world is a healthy place to live. It is important to note that despite the efforts of our leaders, we as individuals are responsible for our own health. Adopting good self-care strategies will ensure quality health for all, and will go a long way to make the world a wonderful place to live.

Gratitude for Real

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Betsy_McGuire]Betsy McGuire
I was on my way to a medical clinic to get a blood test - something very basic and nothing at all to be concerned about. It was one of those days - the good kind; traffic was light, my favorite songs were coming on the radio one by one, the first parking spot was open for me on a rainy day. By the time I got to the clinic, my heart was light and there was a smile on my face. Happily, I bounced up the stairs to the lab, but as soon as I turned the corner, I could see a very disturbing scene. I girl about my daughter's age, dressed in pajamas, sitting quietly in the lab's waiting area and crying. Her mother had her arms around her, stroking her hair, and saying comforting things to her. I checked in at the desk and took a seat across from the pair. At first I had to force myself not to look at them to take in the whole scene, but after a while I physically turned my body so I didn't have to witness it anymore. It was all too easy to imagine my daughter's face on that girl and my arms consoling her. My mind wandered to horrible places of what was wrong with this girl. How did she end up at this lab crying in her pajamas? I was happy to be called back within a few minutes, though I'll admit to feeling guilty for being taken first. I was hoping the girl would get called as soon as possible so that her pain might go away sooner. I was in and out within minutes. As I passed through the waiting area on my way out, I forced myself to turn away from the mother and daughter, though I knew they were still there.
On my way home I cried and prayed for comfort for the girl and her mother. I then said a very long prayer of gratitude for my two healthy, energetic kids. It was then that I realized that this encounter, for me, was not about wallowing in sadness for this stranger girl. Just the opposite, this encounter was to remind me to never take my children and their health for granted and to feel the joy of them everyday. I would say I express gratitude for my family on most days, but admittedly it's sometimes just a habit - just words. This day, I felt the gratitude in the very depth of my soul. I felt true, honest gratitude. It wasn't lip service, it was soul service. That little girl taught me that lesson in just a brief minute and I'm so grateful to her. I hope she gets better soon. She doesn't know it, but she was a great teacher today.

Thriving in the Holidays - Part 1: Mind

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Betsy_McGuire]Betsy McGuire
When I first thought of doing this series, the first title that popped into my head was "Surviving the Holidays". I realized fairly quickly that this title did not represent my intentions for the series. I don't want people to "white-knuckle" it through the holidays. I want people to thrive in the holidays and enjoy the season as much as possible. So, to work on that change of perspective, the number one thing I can recommend for the holidays is to get organized. Running around last minute to take care of things we've forgotten is not too enjoyable. Unfortunately, it happens to many of us because we get consumed by the busyness of the season. Having holiday details organized and printed out will free your mind and allow it to concentrate on more enjoyable things like enjoying your family and the season.
Here's a quick step-by-step guide to getting organized for the holidays:
Step 1: Print out blank calendars for November and December.
Step 2: Put on your calendar any of your normal activities such as meetings, etc. through the end of the year.
Step 3: Add any seasonal activities to your calendar.
a) parties
b) programs
c) concerts
d) religious services
e) family traditions
f) volunteer activities
g) travel dates
Step 4: Make lists
a) list all the people you'll buy gifts for
-include gift ideas and a budget for each person
b) list all the cookies, candy, buffet items, and treats you'll be making
-gather the recipes
c) make menus if you're hosting any gatherings
-gather the recipes
d) if you're traveling this season, list out any applicable information
Step 5: Your should now be able to look at your calendar and see where the activities listed here will fit. Add them.
a) baking
b) shopping for gifts
c) decorating
d) wrapping gifts
e) sending cards
f) shopping for food
One last thing. Look over your calendar and question every activity on it. If there is anything on your calendar that isn't necessary, get rid of it. Simplify as much as possible. Ask yourself if you really need to make 15 types of cookies or if you need to get gifts for all the neighbors. Just thoughtfully consider all of it. When you are down to your bare minimum, you're ready to enjoy the season.

Reiki Treatment for Diabetes

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Andrew_J_Cook]Andrew J Cook
Is Reiki effective in assisting the treatment of Diabetes?
Yes.
Should Reiki be used to assist the treatment of Diabetes?
Only if the client has Type 2 Diabetes...
This may seem and odd statement to make because if Reiki has been shown to help treat Diabetes Type 1, then why not use it?
Diabetes Type 1 is a condition caused by the lack of insulin being produced by the patients pancreas. This is generally considered incurable and requires the patient to inject themselves each day with insulin to assist in the break-down of blood sugars. The patient has to monitor their blood sugar level quite closely to avoid peaks and troughs. We have all had sugar rushes at some point and they can be quite unpleasant. A Type 1 Diabetic is at risk of these all the time unless they manage their condition properly. A dip in blood sugar through eating too little or injecting insulin at the wrong time can be seriously dangerous, and in extreme cases lead to diabetic coma and possibly death.
Type 2 Diabetes is a slightly different ball game. There is little wrong with the pancreas however it is the rest of the body that has the problem. The cells become resistant to insulin absorption so blood sugar cannot be processed properly. In many cases this can be managed through diet alone. Blood sugar checking is not as vital; however it is still required on a regular basis even once diet is under control, just to make sure the occasional piece of chocolate or portion of apple pie doesn't start to get too regular.
So why shouldn't Reiki be used with Type 1 Diabetics?
Because it may work too well, and too quickly. The problem any health practitioner has is in knowing whether their client will follow their instructions once they leave. Every Diabetic knows they must check their blood sugars regularly but we are all human and we all forget important things now and then. If a Diabetic seeks Reiki treatment for their condition then the risks are that it may work, insulin production may be started again and they may forget to check their levels before their next injection. The issue here isn't that Reiki is dangerous, but forgetting to check the blood sugar level is a lot more dangerous.
As stated above, if blood sugar levels drop too low then coma and death are serious risks. After their Reiki session, a Diabetic is at risk of their pancreas starting to produce insulin in a significant quantity and this could mean that, at some point, their next injection could overdose them. Blood sugar levels will plummet in this situation and the resulting coma could be fatal.
This article may sound like scare mongering but this situation has actually occurred on more than one occasion. For the patients sake it is best practice to refuse to treat clients suffering from Type 1 Diabetes. They may have a track record of religiously testing their blood but can you, as a Reiki Practitioner, really trust them to continue doing so? They are only human, and humans are fallible. No practitioner wants to hear of the demise of one of their clients because their treatment worked, so it is far better to be safe rather than sorry.
Andy Cook is a Reiki Master Teacher, Crystal Therapist and Indian Head Massage practitioner. His approach to his clients is one of providing a holistic treatment to the entire person, not just trying to treat the symptoms presented.

Just Rest

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Brenda_Jenkins]Brenda Jenkins
We live in a 24/7 society where stores never close, where moment by moment you can find new things on the internet, where TV broadcasts go non-stop and the fax machine is always printing. People today just don't want to rest because they're afraid they'll miss something. You always see ads or programs touting, "Don't miss this! It's the next thing in..." Because of this, people are not getting enough rest. Stress is high, blood pressures are raised, diseases are rampant.
Is it really necessary for us to give our kids every new thing that comes out on the market? Do we really need a BMW for every day of the week? Couldn't we be just as happy in a 2000 (or less) square foot house instead of a mansion? People in this country are really blessed with materials things, but need some of the concepts of some of the less fortunate countries. Joy, peace, happiness, gratitude and a little siesta time.
What would be the benefit of just taking a day off and resting? Renewed energy, fresh ideas, lower stress levels? Don't we all need this. Who wants their epitaph to be, "Your name, loving spouse, devoted parent and hard worker died young, and left us all too soon, because of trying to keep up with the Joneses."
Most of us strive and strive to catch that next big wave, that new innovation and find that it's either not all it's crack up to be, or there's a lot more to it. I'm not saying give up on all your dreams. Just take some time off to recharge your batteries and bond with your family.
How many kids do we have in this society today that have a missing parent because they are trying to make ends meet, or get the gold so that their kids can have everything. Nothing wrong with supporting your family...but do your kids really need all those extra gadgets in place of you? They need your time, your face, your smiles, and your love. That's the most important thing that kids need.
Let's get back to basics. Why do you think your mom always made you take a nap as a child? You needed the rest. You're just a big kid now with the same basic needs.
Isn't it worth it for ourselves, our health and our families to take at least a day off to rest? Devote some time to quiet time. Read, relax, stretch out, play with your kids, exercise, pray. No schedules, no smart phones, no computers, no faxes. Go for the gold this way, and jump in feet first into the crystal waters of rest. You will be refreshed.

The Yin and Yang in Our Life

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Howard_Frederick_Gibbon]Howard Frederick Gibbon
Long ago in ancient China the early Taoists carefully studied the natural world and saw how everything had two influences, which regulate, complement, or oppose. They named them Yin & Yang and depicted them with the now famous symbol.
They noticed how everything had an opposite but because it was an opposite didn't necessarily mean it would oppose, it could also compliment. Nothing is totally Yin or totally Yang. These two opposing yet complimentary forces are the underlying factors behind Chinese thought. They are inherent in Chinese philosophy, medicine, and are depicted by many works of art; indeed they are at the root of Chinese culture.
Let us take a few examples and try to see how these two fundamental principles not only oppose, but also compliment each other. Yin being the moon, night, darkness, water, cold, female, contraction. Yang being sun, day, light, fire, heat, male, expansion. Firstly we must understand that nothing is totally yin or yang, each has a little of the other present in varying degrees. This can be seen by examining the above yin and yang characteristics. The moon appears at night when it is dark. Night, dark and moon are yin, but the moon which waxes and wanes depending on the time of the month, gives us and the rest of the animal kingdom a little light with which to see by, which is yang.
The sun which is yang gives us warmth and light without which plants would not grow and there would be no food to sustain life. When the sun is at its peak animals seek the shade, which is yin and we humans, if we venture out at this time, need to drink more fluids, which are yin, to keep our body temperature normal. If the sun shone continuously all plant life would shrivel up and die, the rivers and sea would eventually dry up and all life would cease, for all life needs water to survive. So permanent yang is not good. If Earth were perpetually in darkness, plants would not grow and there would be no food to feed the animal kingdom. So permanent yin is not good. So whilst it is true that yin and yang are opposites, they also harmonise for without either life, as we know it, could not exist on our planet. Without either male or female human life could not continue. Whilst man and women have since the beginning of life on earth had difficulty understanding one another, they must co-operate and harmonise with each other to continue the species.
Too much pleasure will turn to pain. If you have a night out on the town over-indulging in food and drink you will surely suffer for it the following day. And if you continue to do this on a regular basis your health will inevitably deteriorate. Balance is essential to our well-being, but we are all individuals and what suits one does not necessarily suit another. It is just like learning to ride a bicycle, people can show you how to turn the pedals to provide motion, move the handlebars to change direction and apply the brakes to stop. The only thing they cannot teach you is how to keep your balance on the bike, you just have to get on and keep falling off until you master it. You must do it for yourself.
Striking a balance in all things, the food we eat, work and rest, spending time with others and finding time for yourself etc. is the way to enjoy life whilst keeping your good health, and sometimes, in the face of seemingly insurmountable hardship, to keep your sanity!
What is, is.
The awareness of Yin and Yang teaches us that whatever we experience has another side, and it is only by being open to the whole, without judgment, will we be able to appreciate the true nature and overwhelming richness of life.

Mind, Body And Spirit

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Dr._Emanuel_M._Cane,_DC]Dr. Emanuel M. Cane, DC
We are not addressing the conditions that may cause memory loss or forgetfulness due to chronic diseases such as Alzheimers, senility, multiple sclerosis, dementia, or traumatic head injuries.
Although forgetfulness and memory loss can start between the ages of 50 to 60, it will most often start around the age of 60 and on. Pursuing an active mental and physical lifestyle during these very crucial years can be the key to having a normal mental aging process, without the markedly apparent forgetfulness that can occur during the senior years. Another very important fact is that memory problems will occur more often in those individuals who have lived a sedentary lifestyle than those who have lived a very active physical and mentally challenged lifestyle. The key to preventing forgetfulness during the senior years, therefore, is staying active during the early years, and more importantly the years between 50 to 60 years of age. However, if you have lived a sedentary lifestyle during these crucial years, don't despair, it's never too late to start. Exercising your body will help your mental processes as well, and will be a big factor in eliminating much of the forgetfulness occurring during the senior years. Exercising your mind is equally important. Think of your brain being a muscle and the same old adage applies, "use it or lose it".
Exercise increases the metabolic processes of the body that in turn increases the oxygen uptake. The increased oxygen in the blood increases the oxidation of the cellular activity in all of the body and of course the brain, and helps the body of riding itself of toxins. These processes play an enormous role in creating normal brain function.
Oxygen deprivation can be caused by many factors. However, again, we are discussing the average individual and not the oxygen deprivation due to chronic diseases. First and foremost are the toxic environmental air outdoors, and the air within our homes. The air within our homes is often found to be 50% more dangerous than the air outdoors. Because of this negative indoor air quality, it is often advisable to use air cleaners, especially in the bedroom. Spending at least eight hours nightly sleeping makes it more imperative that we have clean air quality.
A second cause can be the "junk food" that many people eat on a regular basis. This "junk food" is extremely low in oxygen content, and usually high in preservatives. Eating such foods forces the body to utilize its oxygen reserves to oxidize the preservatives and the lower amount of nutrients in such food. Other such foods are white flour, sugar, and caffeine. Decreasing the amounts of such foods will prevent the body from using the very important oxygen reserves. Smoking is another oxygen deprivation factor and should be put on top of the list.
Let's not forget another most important event that we are all prone to. That is "stress". Stress may even be more important than the other causes we just spoke of. Stress causes the body to increase the oxygen needs of all the tissues. A point in fact is that when an individual is under great stress, the result can be hyperventilation. This is a bodily reaction for its need for more oxygen to carry on bodily functions. The oxygen deprivation, will affect the brain before other organs are affected. Lack of oxygen in the brain affects its normal functions. Over a period of time, this lessened oxygen will take its toll, and the result will be memory loss and forgetfulness. How then can we prevent these insidious processes from causing memory loss and forgetfulness, as we grow older? Following the important reasons we discussed above makes it imperative that we change our lifestyle. Read how we best can prevent this unneeded sign of aging.
Health Hints***
1. Exercise is where we start. Find an exercise program that you find is comfortable for you. Most people will try one program, then another, and another and so on, then give up altogether. The rule of thumb is that if you stay with one program for 30 to 90 days, you will become dedicated to that program and stick with it. Personally I have gone through this trial and error period before I developed my own program. Simplicity was my goal and that is why I came up with the "Doctor's Senior Exercise" program.
2. After finding the exercise program that will build up the body physically, you need to exercise the brain as well. Reading books, magazines, and newspapers keeps the mind active. Doing crossword puzzles and even jigsaw puzzles can be challenging to the brain. Playing such word games as Scrabble with others can be challenging
3. Keep a diary. Writing daily entries into a diary will help you recall past experiences and memories. Try your hand at writing shorts stories and poems.
4. Review your daily dietary intake. Instead of junk food snacks, substitute healthy foods. Carrot and celery sticks are satisfying and healthy. Fresh fruit and dried fruits are excellent. Nuts too are especially nutritious if not overdone.
5. Reduce your television watching of inane programs. Do watch news programs that will keep you well informed of current events.
6. Become involved in community affairs. Joining a community center is a great place to interact with others, keeping your mind active. Join a volunteer program to help others.
7. If you are taking medications for any reason, discuss with your doctor if any such medication can affect the brain causing memory loss. He or she may be able to change that medication for another.
8. Reduce any stress in your life. Try to deal with stressful situations in a positive manner.
9. Take some time out on a daily basis. Relax in a quiet room. Do some deep breathing exercises. Think of being on vacation at some beautiful beach or mountain resort and clear your mind of all distractions. Try to build a positive outlook on life.
10. One final word. If you smoke, "STOP". It is never to late to reap the benefits of stopping smoking. Research by a Lung Health Study was published in the June 1 issue of the American Journal of Epidemiolgy. It reports that both men and women benefit from smoking cessation. However, women benefit more than men. The benefits are great, so there is no excuse to keep on smoking.

Dream Control: How to Dream What You Want

Dream control sounds like an impossible thing to do, being able to manipulate your nighttime fantasies to be what you want them to be, but it isn't. Dream control is something that can be done with time and a lot of patience and practice.
The best way to control what you are going to dream about is to envision what you want to think about after you fall into a deep sleep. Close your eyes and take deep breathes, once you are completely relaxed think about what you want to be in your nightly trance for at least 10 minutes. If you want it to be about a specific person or memory, look at photographs, these thoughts will usually translate into your dream state, most people have noticed that when they run into someone from their past or tell someone a story about something that has happened to them, it usually manifests itself into a thought that night.
Another way to control them is to know what you actually dream about. When people wake naturally or after their 90 minute REM (rapid eye movement) cycle, they are more likely to remember what they dream about. Keep a dream journal next to your bed and write every detail you remember as soon as you wake up. You are less likely to retain information as the day progresses. Once you have a general idea of your thoughts are and are able to see any trends that may be occurring you will better be able to manipulate them into what you want them to be. Before you go to bed, imagine the current scenes you had been having and make changes to them in your mind, then when you go to sleep they should happen how you had imagined them earlier. In addition to your journal, you should consistently make a conscious effort to remember your dreams each night. Before you fall asleep, tell yourself that you are going to dream and remember them. This will prepare your mind and make it aware that it needs to store the visions that you are experiencing.
Once you begin to be consciously aware of what happens during sleep, you will be able to lead them into the direction you want to happen. If you are experiencing a nightmare that you are being attacked, tell yourself to stop thinking about it, or scare away whatever you are fighting. If someone is attacking you, change it to make your attacker do something less harmful in the background. It is possible to make your nightmares into a great dream.
Like anything in life, learning how to control your dreams is about persistence and patience. Controlling dreams are something that everyone has the ability to achieve with a little time. The techniques that have been scientifically proven are not difficult, and they are wonderful lessons to teach a child to escape the scary monsters they may be dreaming of.

Learn What Your Dreams Mean

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jill_Magso]Jill Magso
Interpreting dreams in something that has been researched for as long back as man has existed. From Freud to your neighbor, everyone thinks they know what they mean. The truth is, everyone sleep visions, but they belong to us and only we can know what they mean.
The first thing you must do to learn what your dreams mean is to keep a dream journal. Put a pad and paper next to your bed that allows you to write down every detail of your thoughts as soon as you are able. Once you have a good record, you will be able to dive into them more deeply. With your records, you will be able to analyze the different aspects of the dream to find their meaning. There has been numerous researches done on their meaning, so much that you can find thousands of books online that will break it down by each section to help you interpret them.
Some researchers believe that the visions we have while asleep are messages from your subconscious. Your mind is making you aware that there is something happening in your life that needs to be resolved. The trances do not happen to solve the problems in your life, but help you to gain insight of things that may need to be addressed. Recurring dreams may be caused by something in your life that you have no control over. Other researchers believe that they are a continuation of the thoughts you had while you were awake, and some believe that they are a vision into the future. If you dream you are in a car accident, you will be, if your imagination tells you are pregnant, you probably are. This isn't true for most, but some have a firm belief that what we see at night are omens.
People believe that every aspect of a dream is significant, from the location, to the people involved and symbols and colors that you see. No one can say exactly what they are; everyone has their ideas and theories, and they are all different. The best thing for the sleeper to do is analyze their dreams and take away from it what is best for them and their current situation.
You can research what every piece of your fantasies mean; however, the books and research that have been done are a general overview. Everyone's life is different, and one person's image of being chased or falling may have a different meaning than someone else's. The most common dreams are being chased, falling, losing all of your teeth, taking tests, being naked in public and flying. The meaning to one may not be the same to another, use caution when attempting to interpret your dreams. They may not be a life changing message from your subconscious; it may have been caused by something that you watched on television that day, or it may mean that something in your life is unbalanced and needs attention. Only you can know what your thoughts truly signify.

Why To Consider Your Body As a Sacred Temple

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Gayle_Haynes]Gayle Haynes
You Are Unique
Being a sacred temple is a heavy responsibility. Maybe you never thought of yourself as a vehicle of sacred acts and communication, but it's time you did. The particular combination of components in your body are absolutely unique. DNA proves that you cannot be replicated. Even identical twins have different finger prints and individual traits that make them one-of-a-kind creations. If being this singular and unique person is not enough to convince you that you are a sacred instrument, read on.
You also have select and individual thoughts and ideas. How you combine words to tell your child you love him is peculiar to you. How you act or cook, make a bed or an omelette, write a poem or sign your name is your own. Nobody has ever done these things exactly like you. One great advantage of your unique behavior is that it expands the available methods for you to survive. Learn all the old ways and understand the old ideas, but combine them or alter them to make a new approach.
One of the constant needs of human beings is originality and novelty. We are constantly seeking something new. We, at least, want to do the old things a new way, add a new flavor, find a new color combinations. We have that ability within us to see events and life with a different perspective or a new slant. That creative spirit lives in your body and God desires to make life a joyous experience for you.
Your Body Is Fragile
There are many things that attack the sacred nature of your body in the present world. We eat and drink and ingest substances that damage our bodies. The thoughts you dwell on determine your attitude. The people you choose as friends influence you. The work you do is either fulfilling or depressing. If you find that your life is not reflecting a holy internal experience, you should look at attitude, behavior, and contribution to the world. Maybe you need to change your thoughts, friends, or behaviors. Consider the holy nature of your body before you violate it with substances or thoughts or behavior that are damaging.
Your Body Is Holy
I Corinthians 3:16 says that our bodies are the temple in which the Spirit of God resides. If you are not a Christian, that promise is still waiting to be fulfilled, but it is available to you whenever you want to accept it. You are sacred to God because he created you and he considers your body as the instrument of your worship and work before him.

Healthy Holidays 2011

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Maripili_Rodriguez]Maripili Rodriguez
What do most of us love about the holidays? The delicious, rich, comforting and soul satisfying foods. What do most of hate about the holidays? The delicious, rich, comforting and soul satisfying foods. Talk about a love/hate relationship! We all know that the next six weeks are going to be incredibly tempting with colorful cocktails, succulent meats, a slew of side dishes and rich, decadent desserts. We know this and know it well in advance, the schedule is pretty much set, yet we fall into the same health defeating cycles again and again. And it's not only about weight gain, as that can vary from a couple of pounds to several or more, depending on the individual. It's also about the emotional toll this time period has on us. Instead of truly enjoying the holidays with our loved ones, we excessively worry about overeating, gaining weight and guilt about making bad food choices, or we totally give in, eating anything and everything we want and think "I'll just start fresh in January for the New Year". But again, without a plan or discipline we fall back into our old habits until spring comes along with the stress of getting into shape for summer and the cycle begins again. Does this sound familiar to you?
Okay, let's start by working on making the 2011 holiday season different and healthy. We can have our cake... pie, cookies, trifle... and eat it too. I am going to share with you my personal "get through the holidays without gaining weight" strategy that will allow you to indulge in your holiday favorites without the extra pounds or experiencing added stress in your life. Granted, my strategy isn't something most of you haven't heard before, it's all about moderation and making healthy choices; and I'm going to provide you with practical steps to help you achieve success, if you put in the effort and follow them.
Moderation: While the holidays season last for several weeks, the actual days of feasting are only two or three. Set the intention and make clear in your mind the fact that you do not have to give in to all the treats and goodies offered at your workplace and from your neighbors and relatives on the days and weeks leading up to the major holiday dinners. Trust me, saying no to them will not hurt their feelings, most likely they will admire your discipline and perhaps even follow suit, or they may just eat that second piece of cranberry cheesecake anyway, while still admiring your discipline. Instead of giving into every sugar cookie, red and green foil covered chocolate or mug of eggnog, save your calories and time of indulgence for those special meals that you share with your family and friends. Compare that truly satisfying experience of enjoying good food with loved ones against the feeling of guilt about eating all the gingerbread men after the kids went to bed, and baking a new batch by morning, or the fact that you sat at your desk and ate most of the office holiday goodie basket, before lunch. Moderation is the key to living a healthy life.
Make healthy choices: In addition to being mindful of what and how often you eat, keep your workout schedule consistent. I know, it is very difficult to do so around the holidays with all the shopping, visiting relatives, house guest and depending on your line of work, there may be a lot of late work nights. But as Andrew Carnegie said "Anything worth having is worth working for." And what is more worth working for, or worth having for than your health and wellness so you can have many more holiday seasons to celebrate. And actually, physical activity is a wonderful way to spend time with your family during the festivities. Whether you go for brisk walks together in the evenings, take advantage of the holiday guest passes offered by gyms or even play a sports game or challenge grandma to a dance battle, don't laugh, she may win, on the new, interactive video game systems. The goal is to move your body and work up a sweat 4-5 days a week.
Living a healthy lifestyle is a process and a journey, and it's one that becomes more challenging and difficult starting with the Halloween candy and ending with January's champagne toast, but with the right mindset and effort on our part, it is possible to experience a healthy and indulgent holiday season. Cheers to your health!

5 Reasons Why You Are Struggling To Make That Decision

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adrienne_Fikes]Adrienne Fikes
Wow, could you just make a decision already? Please!
How many times have you heard that from yourself or others? You wonder why what seems like such a simple decision for others is so difficult for you. Or perhaps you are usually extremely decisive and yet find yourself waffling between the options presented like a kid in a candy store. Why are you struggling to make this decision? Here are 5 common reasons why you may be struggling to make that decision:
1. Your Thinking It "Should" Not Be This Difficult
You are not getting any closer to making a decision by mentally or verbally beating yourself up for having a tough time making a choice. How often to you tell your self this "should" not be so hard? I "should" have made a choice already. I "should" know what to do. "Should" signals the presence of expectations or beliefs that are often unproductive or unrealistic. Mentally, it takes you out of the space where you make your sound decisions. Instead of getting caught up in what "should" be, focus on what is and how to move forward from exactly where you are.
2. You Are Distracted By Other Things
Hey you *snaps fingers* FOCUS!!! How can you expect to make a sound decision if you keep allowing your attention to wander to other things? Turn off the internal and external distractions for a moment. Pull yourself away from the internet and the video games, or the people that are providing an excuse to procrastinate on making this decision. Ok, maybe you are not willing to turn the phone off, but how about airplane mode for just a moment. It's a great setting for your phone. Use it liberally. Quiet your thinking, stop talking and be still. Focus your attention on one thing at a time instead of multitasking your way through the day. Set priorities for which decisions to tackle first.
3. You Are Afraid of Change
Shhh! This is our little secret. You are afraid of change. Yes, I know. It is not that things are so great right now, you just feel anxious about how things may change. That is natural and you are not alone. At some point during the ebb and flows of your life, you will feel a reluctance or anxiety about change. Sometimes even the best changes can feel like the moments before a storm. Give yourself the space to think about what that fear is really about. Look to your circle of support for a safe space to be calm and do familiar things. Prepare yourself for what's ahead by accepting that you will feel fear from time to time. Just do not allow that fear to stop you from moving forward.
4. You Doubt Your Ability and Power
Those great options are not intimidating. You are intimidated by your own lack of confidence in your ability and power to make the right choice. You are reminding yourself of all the bad decisions you have made in the past. OR you are playing this horror movie over and over in your mind about what things will look like if you make the wrong choice. Well, you could continue to punk yourself out, or you could choose to move into a more positive place. How about making a list of reasons why you are the right person to make this choice. How about reminding yourself of the times in your life when things worked out well because of a choice you made. What about the lessons you learned from the mistakes you made before? Commit to apply those lessons to this decision so that you are building upon your own wisdom and creating a better situation. If it helps, think through how to handle the situation if things go wrong. Speak to your ability and power to handle whatever comes your way.
5. You Do Not Have a Clear Objective or Purpose
The only thing more frustrating than having a handful of bad options is having a handful of great options. What is the difference? How do you know which one is best? The biggest reason why you are struggling to make that decision is because you don't have a clear objective or purpose to weigh your options against. Having a clear purpose means having a set of necessary requirements or a specific vision of the desired result in the end. Purpose is an arrow or compass pointing you in a particular direction. If you know the way your purpose is pointing you, you can compare it to the direction each option will take you. You may have heard people say "start with the end in mind." Making even the most difficult decision is so much easier when you have the power that comes from knowing your purpose.

Thriving In The Holidays - Part 2: Body

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Betsy_McGuire]Betsy McGuire
I don't need to tell you that one of the biggest challenges of this time of year is taking care of our bodies.  Parties here, cookies there, and throw in a huge holiday meal every couple of weeks; it's no wonder many of us gain weight over the holidays.  On top of that, for many of us the weather is getting colder and our schedules are getting busier.  That dual situation can lure us away from any kind of routine exercise program and cause plenty of stress.  So how can we avoid gaining weight this holiday season?  I have several tips.
SPREAD IT AROUND-  If you host a large dinner or party, send most of your leftovers home with others.  Your friends and family will appreciate the gesture and you won't be munching fattening foods for a week.
CHOOSE WISELY- When you're at parties and holiday dinners, choose a small portion of everything you enjoy.  Avoid eating unconsciously.  Just because it's on the table or buffet does not mean you have to eat it.  Choose foods you truly enjoy and don't get to have very often.
BAKE WITH INTENTION- Make only slightly more cookies and candy than you need for entertaining or gifts.  It's part of many families' traditions to both make cookies and eat them during the holidays.  You can still do that, just plan to make only a dozen or two extra instead of having tins of cookies lying around the house for weeks.  If you find yourself with too much, take the extras to work, church, a local charity, or school.  It will most certainly be appreciated.
PLAN YOUR MEALS AROUND PARTIES-  It may seem like it, but highly caloric and fattening food does not surround you 24/7 during the holidays.  Make your routine meals during this time healthy and nutritious.  Be sure to eat plenty of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.  Plan your menu based on what's going on during the week.  When you foresee a holiday meal or party, be sure to lighten up and pack your other meals full of healthy foods.
BUNDLE UP-  I know it's cold for many of us, but get outside anyway.  Take a walk, sled with the kids, go cross-country skiing; anything to get you moving and burning calories.  Check out the local forecast at the beginning of the week and pick a couple of the warmer days to plan some sort of outdoor activity.  If you just can't take the cold, get to the gym or pop in an exercise DVD a couple of times during the week.  Not only will you balance those extra treats you're eating by burning calories, your body will reward you with more energy to do all you need to do in this season.
MOST IMPORTANTLY-   Once you choose to eat a treat, cookie, hunk of beef, candy cane, etc., I only have one more rule - ENJOY IT!!  This is the most important thing.  Choose wisely and take the time to consciously enjoy every bite.  Look at it, smell it, taste it, and appreciate it.  Getting the full enjoyment out of every bite will help you to be satisfied and not over-indulge.

Positive Thinking Is The Key To Personal Success!

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larissa_Vinci]Larissa Vinci
In life, we tend to face obstacles on a daily basis. We might have parents who are sick, we might have just gotten laid off from our jobs and might be financially burdened with loans. These obstacles make us think little of ourselves. They look so onerous that we cannot look beyond them towards our goals. Of course when not beaten down, we can surely say that there is not an obstacle in life that cannot be overcome with careful planning and execution. But sometimes the days get so heavy that these goals become impossible to attain. It might depend on our mood, or maybe it just might not be our day. But whatever the occasion, we must realize that if we make use of positive thinking, we can easily overcome these obstacles and achieve personal success.
The human mind is a thinking machine. It may get bogged down in times of stress, but when free of any worries, it works quite well. It can plan in advance, see the obstacles it is facing, takes measures of all the resources available, and creates a game plan on how to achieve those objectives. It might have everything in place, but it is also fickle. People are different. But forgetting everything about our goals and losing focus is something that happens with everyone when they are faced with obstacles. After all, we are all human and can only take on so much. But during all this process of being confronted with harsh realities of life, there are those who have the weapon of positive thinking. Through positive thinking, they can forget all about the obstacles they are facing and focus on the big picture. There are various ways positive thinking helps us achieve success.
One of the biggest questions we as human beings tend to ask ourselves on a daily basis is whether we are rich enough or not. Do we have money in our bank account? How expensive is our car? How much education do we have? Just witnessing these things in other people tends to trigger these thoughts more often and the triggers are even stronger if the people whom we witness as such are close. All this might throw things into perspective. But a positive thinker when confronted with these thoughts will not feel let down. They will quickly start looking for perspective on the other side of the fence. They will start to themselves, there are other people not as blessed as I am in all these respects, and this will make them feel better!
Hence [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]positive thinking goes a long way in making us think through our obstacles and enables us to focus in our quest for [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]personal success.

Positive Thinking: The Key To Conquering Your Life

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larissa_Vinci]Larissa Vinci
Many of us go through hardships in our lives and these can have a negative effect on our thinking. Even when we are through with those events, the memories remain, coming to the surface whenever we go through a similar experience. Moreover, negative thinking due to such experiences becomes ingrained in our mind due to those events.
Death of a loved one, joblessness, stress, and family disputes can all drain away the energy from one's life, making us question life itself or why we exist in the first place. For some people, it goes even further. Negative thinking becomes a part of their thinking, a part of their cognition, or thought processes. Sometimes they get so entangled with negative thinking that they are thinking that way all the time! Even if they are presented with anything good, they will still think negative and turn the good events into bad ones. People who suffer from depression go through these effects. However that is actually quite an advanced stage and beyond the scope of this article since depression cannot be cured just with the use of positive thinking. However even if we do not have depression, we can still be affected by negative thinking since after all, we are all human beings. So how do we get rid of this habit of negative thinking that gets in the way of personal success? We go for positive thinking! There are many ways of doing this.
One of the first is to take up the company of positive thinkers. Always try to spend time with those people who are always working hard and thinking positive about life. If you go to college, there will be two kinds of people in your class -- the people who work hard, get good grades, and are always thinking about the future and how they will achieve it. On the other hand there are those who are just living in the present, and wasting time with pointless pursuits. Spending time with those who want to progress will make you think like them and give you hope.
If you have a hobby, then pursue it with the greatest vigor. If you play chess, then join a chess club. If you like running, then do it every day. Set new goals everyday of achieving the faster mile, and so on. Finally, set goals that are apart from making money or going for a vacation. Take yourself out of your life equation and start thinking about others who may need your help.
All these things will help you practice [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]positive thinking, setting you on the path to [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]personal success and help achieving your goals with the least effort possible.

Positive Thinking Helps You Conquer Obstacles!

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larissa_Vinci]Larissa Vinci
They say that to separate the positive thinkers from the negative ones, there is a very simple method. You just have to present the two with a glass of water that is only filled halfway. The positive thinker will see the glass as half full, while the negative thinker will see the glass as half empty. Even though this is a useful method for telling the difference, unfortunately, that is all it does. If you are a negative thinker and want to practice positive thinking, then you will have to do much more than just see the glass as half full.
Negative thinking is something that leads us astray from our goals. It does this by making us lose our focus in the time of adversity. We tend to look for safer options and in neat terms, just hide our head in the sand, while the water flows above the ground. However when the adversity passes, we realize that we have lost so much!
So what is the way around all this negative thinking? Why do we have to hide our head under the pillow? One thing that sheds light on all this is focus. Focus is a very important element of positive thinking and goes a long way in ensuring personal success. If we are facing adversity, we should never lose focus. Whether it is long term or short term, focus is very important.
Whenever we plan in our lives for a big goal, we always set short term milestones that we have to achieve. Whenever facing adversity, we quickly tend to switch to negative thinking and start thinking about how we are ever going to achieve that long term goal? However, this is the wrong approach. Even though these goals are important, unless we are faced with life changing events, our long term goals are still attainable. Hence it would be foolish to start thinking about our long term goals right away if we are faced with short term hardships! All short term hardships are going to do is that they might jeopardize our short term goals and this really does not matter. So if we focus on the fact that our long term goals are still attainable, we will feel a lot more at ease and less worried. Focusing on the long term goal instead of the short term one is greatly demotivating for us, thus making us unable to achieve even our short term goals.
Thus we find that staying focused on our short term goals is an aspect of [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]positive thinking. Doing so enables us to achieve our goals and keeps us on track for [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]personal success.

Positive Thinking - An Essential Quality For A Successful Life!

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larissa_Vinci]Larissa Vinci
Positive thinking is a very essential ingredient of how we need to think if we are to achieve any measure of personal success. This is because life is full of challenges and obstacles that get between us and our goals. It is positive thinking that lets us see through these obstacles, enabling us to see the big picture and thus keeping us on track to achieve our goals. Without positive thinking, we would not be able to achieve this success.
Negative events tend to happen all the time that beat us down and think little of ourselves. Take business for example. In business, people are regularly faced with events of loss. For example, let us assume that you are just starting out in a new business. You know you have high hopes for your business and know you want to succeed in it. You know things are not certain but you are a positive thinker and you know you might just succeed if you play your cards right.
The first customer walks in. They are a big customer and have given you a large order. You work hard on it, giving it all your time and money, just so that the project is completed on time and is in line with the customer's satisfaction. You deliver the product and the customer is happy, but right when the payment is due the customer goes bankrupt due to their own circumstances and cannot pay your invoice. You know it was your first customer and it was also a big one and now all that is gone. Now this is where the positive thinker is separated from the negative thinker. The negative thinker will take this loss unto themselves and the negative side will take over. Such a large loss will make them lose interest in the business and they will see no profit in it. For this reason they might just shut the business down.
Now imagine the case of the positive thinker. They will remember what they originally thought about the business -- all its prospects and the chance to make profit. They know that the market is large and that not all customers are going through such a bad time. They know that the customer had problems that were specific to them and that such problems are not common to everyone around. Hence they will continue with the business and look for new customers who might give them good business.
So we see that the negative thinker lets the loss bog them down and makes them lose focus while the person who practices [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]positive thinking sees the silver lining and keeps going to achieve greater [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]personal success.

Adolescent Scoliosis: A Self-Esteem Dilemma

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Karen_SC_Ashley]Karen SC Ashley
I first discovered that my daughter had scoliosis just over 2 years ago when she was just a pre-teen. My detection of a physical problem with her development happened quite by accident. Here it was that she began complaining of backaches and headaches more often than usual until 1 day I asked her to bend forward and pretend she was touching her toes. This physical examination confirmed in my mind what the problem was.
Coincidentally, I had just started one of my nursing courses on "Caring for an Adolescent with a Physical Disorder" which helped me identify my daughter's symptoms.
The next day she was officially diagnosed as having scoliosis. Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) is an unwanted lateral curvature of the spine with an initial onset seen more often in children, particularly girls, age 10 to maturity. It is an insidious physical defect that happens usually without prior warning with very little hope for early resolution.
Dissatisfactory Treatments Aids For Scoliosis
There are only 3 ways of treating scoliosis; all are poor choices in uplifting an adolescent's self-conscious spirit:
1. Observation: for 3-6 months, if caught at an early stage when the child's bones are still growing.
2. Back brace: if progressive curvature is observed during the 3-6 months (20-40 degrees) then a brace is recommended. Back braces are notorious for being a waste of time and only serve to diminish an adolescent's already lowered self-esteem.
3. Surgery: severe curvature in excess of 40 degrees warrants an invasive operation by the orthopedic surgeon. This option again is controversial and is not a cure.
Why it is a Psychological Issue
 Adolescent scoliosis has no known cause; its idiopathic nature affects any age group with females being the vulnerable gender. It arouses feelings of hopelessness.
 There is no satisfactory prognosis. Treatment is palliative rather than curative.
 Severe curvature can affect cardiopulmonary and neurological function along with debilitating physical defects.
How to Encourage Positive Self-esteem
 After the diagnosis have a talk about positive body image. Treat it as seriously as your first talk with your adolescent on hormonal changes and sex.
 This is the time when they are most conscious of their looks. Encourage an understanding that each person is unique and no one is created perfect. What may appear as a flaw can be used to raise the bar, overcoming personal challenges.
 Confidence and a winning smile are admirable qualities. Encourage your adolescent everyday with positive feedback and praise.
 Show your child how to dress to camouflage areas of the body that creates self-consciousness and feelings of inferiority.
 Encourage physical exercise and extracurricular activities to keep their bodies in fit condition while increasing endorphins and enhancing their mood.
There are circumstances in life that just happens and few of us have any control over it. Scoliosis is one of them. Fighting against it only creates frustration and depression. My daughter's stage of scoliosis has stabilized at age 15 while just "observing" as the doctors recommend. I have however, ensured that her mental attitude is positive, that she involves herself in outdoor activities, and I tell her every day that she is beautiful. I must say emphatically, I like the changes that I see!

Positive Thinking Will Help You Achieve Success!

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Larissa_Vinci]Larissa Vinci
It is true that your mind is the key to everything you will ever do in life and is a key factor in determining personal success. How you think and how you approach things determines whether you will achieve what you want or not. Hence it is important that you very well get used to positive thinking in life. In your mind, there are always two forces fighting -- the positive and the negative. Both will try to be realistic and show you the way. But through training and practice you can actually develop an ability to learn with the positive side since it is what makes you win.
So why choose positive thinking? Pessimism or negative thinking after all may be realistic and safer. Why leap through a crevice while you can be safe on this side. Who knows? You might fall to your peril. But yet, positive thinking will tell you that if you jump, and get to the other side, you would get rewards that would outstrip the perils. A feeling of winning would engulf you and you would have really achieved something. This is what being human is all about. You must take risks in order to achieve what you want to achieve. If you do not get out of the cave, you will never see the sunlight. Sure you might even get wet in the rain, but it is worth it in the end.
Positive thinking is very important as it helps you grow up and face the challenges in life. Throughout your lives and even on a daily basis, you are faced with perils that can beat you down, and make you think low of yourselves. However, if you are used to positive thinking, you can beat those demons and really forget about them. Hence, positive thinking needs to become a habit!
Past experiences may haunt you by popping back into your mind even when you face the smallest of challenges. They may make you feel beaten down. The worst thing they do is that they make you forget about your goals, what you have set for you in your lives and all the goodness that might result if you are able to achieve those things. Not only that, they may even make you forget your goals on a daily basis so much so that it may become impossible for you to go on with your daily lives! [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]Positive thinking is very important if you want to develop and grow as people and face bigger challenges in life and achieve [http://www.personalsuccesstalk.com]personal success. No matter how big a challenge, it can be overcome with positive thinking.

Get On the Road to a More Balanced Body

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Catherine_Stack]Catherine Stack
In order to achieve optimal health your body should be work in balance. To get on the road to a balanced body there are certain components that need to be working properly so that the body works in harmony. These components are:
Adequate Sleep: Sleep acts like your body's natural recharger. It is important to get on a consistent sleep schedule so that your body has the opportunity to metabolize food to an optimal degree. Sleep also allows your body to repair and renew tissue, nerve cells and other glands and reorganize thoughts and memories. If you are sleep deprived than your body undergoes a hormonal imbalance of adrenaline and cortisol which triggers a metabolic slowdown. This negative cycle of slowdown and hormonal imbalance triggers a chain reaction of water retention, digestive challenges, irritability, lack of focus, and unstable blood sugar. So do yourself a favor and catch up on some needed zzzzz. Typically it is suggested to get 8 hours of sleep but everybody is different. The best way to determine is to go by the number of hours you typically need to feel rested and ready to start the day.
Nutrition: The right food can be medicine as well as fuel for the body. With a good nutrition plan you will stabilize blood sugar, release stored fat consistently, and balance your hormones.
Exercise: Physical exercise is needed to burn your fuel. A good exercise plan recruits all your muscle fibers which will increase your lean body mass, speed metabolism and maximize your fat burning capabilities. Exercise is a crucial component in the quest to achieve body balance.
Vitamins, Minerals, and Omega-3:It is important to get the proper nutrients to keep the body running efficiently as well providing the body with antioxidants to combat damaging free radicals that disrupt body balance. If you eat the right food choices you do not have to take supplements but seeing how busy most people's lives are, sometimes it is difficult to incorporate a variety of foods. Taking a daily multivitamin/mineral seems to meet most people's active lifestyle. The best type of supplement to take is liquid form to ensure maximum absorption. Omega-3 can lower blood pressure and cholesterol, improve brain function, and reduce inflammation and joint pain. It is also known to improve the appearance and condition of your skin, hair and nails. It is suggested to eat a fatty fish three times a week. If you are concerned about mercury levels found in fish than the other alternative is to take 3,000 to 5,000 mg of fish oil per day.
Water: Take at least 8 glasses of water a day in order to keep your metabolism running efficiently, maintains muscle hydration and blood circulation, radiates the skin and eliminates bloating. Since the human body is made up of 70 percent water, it is only logical that adequate water intake is very necessary for body balance.
Stress reduction: Stress is causes your body to keep high levels of cortisol which raises blood sugar levels which increases fat storing capacity. Cortisol suppresses your immune system which triggers inflammation, and bloating, and slows metabolism. Stress is one of the worst offenders when it comes to disrupting body balance.
Have an annual checkup: You should consult your doctor and check to see if you have any nutrient deficiency. It is also important to monitor your blood pressure and to screen for diabetes and other chronic diseases. If you catch a problem in the early stages it can mean the difference of many additional years to your lifespan.
Do something you enjoy and laugh a little more: Enjoyment is considered the x-factor. If you regularly do things that give you pleasure your mood will be elevated and stress levels greatly reduced. As they say there is no better medicine than laughter and pure joy so make sure to incorporate a dose of both in your everyday routine to achieve not only body balance but mind and soul balance. http://blog.healthnut101.com

How to Relieve Stress in the Most Natural Way

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Annette_Duveroth]Annette Duveroth
"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished" ~ Lao Tzu ~
At a first glance this quote almost sounds a little contradictory. In nature there is no stress, no effort, no worry... and still everything solves itself without any effort!?
When we bring the beautiful wisdom of Lao Tzus words to a deeper level, we find that the contrast is lurking between Mankind and Nature, and not within the quote itself. We are so caught up with the increasing speed of information and turbulence of energies surrounding us, that we have lost our contact with the natural and simple way to let life take its course.
According to National Health Interview Survey; "75% of the general population experiences at least "some stress" every two weeks."
The good news is that we can easily tap back into our natural state of Being. And even better... We can step out of our environmental spinning wheel of stressing "noise", without any need to isolate ourselves in a remote cave high up in the mountains? The instant key to solve this is within our reach - here and now!
Nature is all around us, and the answers are always present to us.
Therefore, we can allow nature to teach us how to relieve our stress in the most natural way...
See the trees...The trees do not hurry or stress to grow, and there is no need to either remind or reward them to keep on growing. Trees grow in a flow and movement of life itself. All around us we see this motion of energies in growing and returning cycles. Life and death are constantly completing each other through these generating cycles of energetic Intelligence.
See the grass, or perhaps a field of barley moving in the wind... The straws bend back and forth or maybe around, in a soft movement by the wind. The plant does not question the wind, or the winds right to be blowing. Instead it follows in this dance without any resistance, and thereby it also keeps from breaking.
See the water in a stream... The water does not hurry or struggle to find its path. Neither does it question the path it takes. It always chooses the way that allows it to flow in accomplishment... the way of least resistance.
And see the animals... Animals do not stress or worry about tomorrow. Instead they are fully present in the moment of Now. In this state of peaceful awareness, they are also always alert to act when action is required.
This is nature being in no hurry, and still accomplishing all that IS!
Now you might wonder; How can this teach ME to relieve MY stress?
Here, I will share two effective ways to let life flow in accomplishment.
Warning: Do not be fooled by the simplicity of these methods. In fact - It is within the natural simplicity we see the most powerful transformations take place.
1. Take a Walk in Nature
- Walk in silence.
- Breathe deeply and open your senses to hear, to smell, to feel, to see.
- Bring in all the magic around you; the trees, the plants, the birds, the colours...
- Reflect the knowing that "Nature does not hurry..."
sense the harmony
sense the peace
- Reflect the knowing that "... yet everything is accomplished"
sense the unseen movement of activity
sense the alertness
sense the perfection
sense the completion of every moment, as it is.
- Be Grateful... Give thanks to Natures way of greeting and embracing you.
~~~
2. Sit or lie down - and do the same as above.~ Only this time you do it all in your vision.
- Close your eyes.
- Breathe deeply and open your senses to hear, to smell, to feel, to see.
- Imagine all the magic around you; the trees, the plants, the birds, the colours...
- Imagine "the Pulse of Nature", "the Heartbeat of Universe" that keeps everything flowing in an endless rhythm of energy.
- Reflect the knowing that "Nature does not hurry..."
sense the harmony
sense the peace
- Reflect the knowing that "... yet everything is accomplished"
sense the unseen movement of activity
sense the alertness
sense the perfection
sense the completion of every moment, as it is.
- Be Grateful... Give thanks to Natures way of greeting and embracing you.
~~~
What happens when we do this?
We automatically get reconnected to the pure Source of Intelligent Energy. At the same moment as we "open our senses" to Nature, we allow these energies to flow through us. The beautiful "challenge" is that we cant direct or operate the transformation within this energy with our minds...
My partner, Paul, and I have chosen to name this transformation; Nature O Wisdom. This is the pure vibration that has the Intellect to lead Itself. In this state, we are no longer a match to the vibrations of stress, worry, anxiety, frustration, anger... or fear.
Be like Nature, and everything is accomplished!
